Outplayed by Mets, Cubs left hoping for miraculous comeback in NLCS

Inside a clubhouse that sounded as quiet as a church, the Cubs tried talking themselves into believing they could make history.

What else are they supposed to say now? But after playing 27 innings against the New York Mets, the Cubs haven’t led at any point of this National League Championship Series. A team that loves to play loose hasn’t put any pressure at all on the Mets.

The rain started pouring late Tuesday night at Wrigley Field after a 5-2 loss, a flash storm becoming the perfect backdrop for a run-for-cover series.

The Mets have a thunder-and-lightning rotation – Jacob deGrom won his third playoff start this October – and slam-the-door closer Jeurys Familia waiting in the ninth inning or earlier (3-for-3 in NLCS save chances).
