CHICAGO -- When the Cubs acquired Daniel Murphy, they inserted him into the leadoff spot, hoping to provide a spark. On Friday, Murphy notched his first career leadoff home run.
Murphy smacked a 3-2 changeup from White Sox starter Reynaldo Lopez 411 feet into the right-field seats to open the Interleague game at Guaranteed Rate Field.
It was the third leadoff home run by a Cubs player this season.
Murphy, whom the Cubs acquired on Aug. 21 from the Nationals, entered the game batting .
