In his first start since last season, Tsuyoshi Wada was effective for the Chicago Cubs, although he didn’t qualify for the win in the 3-2 victory. Wada struck out nine Padres in his 4 2/3 innings, but with two on and two out, Joe Maddon elected to lift Wada for the hard-throwing Justin Grimm. The “new” bullpen still has a lot of the same faces, but they posted solid results as Grimm, Zac Rosscup, Jason Motte and closer Hector Rondon held the Padres scoreless to hold on for the victory.
