Monday Cub o’ Coffee: Cubs dealing out serious, historical vengeance

Welcome to the reckoning

There’s a scene in “Tombstone” where Turkey Creek Jack Johnson and Sherman McMaster are sitting and talking with Doc Holliday during a break in their manhunt for the dreaded cowboys. McMasters is shocked by the relentless way Wyatt Earp has them pursuing the bad guys who killed one and injured another of Earp’s brothers.

McMaster says to Holliday somewhat ruefully, “If they were my brothers, I’d want revenge to.”

Holliday replies, “Oh, make no mistake. It’s not revenge he’s after. It’s a reckoning.”

And here we are in the sixth week of what feels less like a fateful Cubs season, and more and more like a reckoning.
