Commissioner Rob Manfred announced Thursday during the Owners Meetings in Florida that the non-waiver trade deadline will be pushed a day for the upcoming season.
Major League Baseball moved the non-waiver trade deadline from July 31 to Aug. 1. The Commissioner said due to July 31 falling on a Sunday this year that is was appropriate to push the deadline a day. Commissioner Manfred said he did not want the deadline to unfold as the games were being played Sunday on the field.
“We thought Sunday made no sense for us this year,” Commissioner Rob Manfred said Thursday at the Owners Meetings.
