All of us know about the discrimination Black baseball players faced from the Major Leagues for decades, until Jackie Robinson broke the “color line” in 1947. Black players had their own leagues for those decades, now collectively known as the Negro Leagues. Many of those players have been inducted into baseball’s Hall of Fame for their great careers.
In recent years, a group called Seamheads has been attempting to compile a full statistical record of the Negro Leagues, and recently baseball-reference.com added Negro League statistics to their site as Major League stats.
Major League Baseball officially announced today that these Negro League stats would be recognized as official MLB records.
