I seriously (OK, not so seriously) considered just writing “C’mon. You know nothing happened” and leaving it at that today. It would have made my life easier.
- Major League Baseball reported that overall payroll for players decreased by $18 million in 2018, the first time that overall payroll went down since 2010.
- MLB also posted a record $10.3 billion in revenue for 2018, the 16th-straight year that the league has reported record revenues. However, it was a smaller increase in revenue than in previous years.
- Craig Calcaterra does warn that the revenue figures contain some troubling signs for MLB, in that a lot of the extra money in 2018 came from sponsorship deals and corporate partnerships rather than more people actually paying money to watch the game.
