Walks can be death on a pitcher and they were that, at least figuratively so, for Jordan Wicks Friday night in Seattle.
Trying to keep a 1-0 game close in the fourth inning, Wicks walked the bases loaded. He was one strike away from ending the inning on the walk that loaded the bases, then Julio Rodriguez singled in two runs and Ty France one more, and that was it for the Cubs, who couldn’t generate much offense in a 4-2 loss to the Mariners.
Throwing strikes has been an issue for Wicks in all three of his starts so far this year.
