Looking Ahead: John Lackey is A Cub

Friday saw John Lackey officially sign with the Cubs for 2 years. After David Price signed an immensely lucrative (which still seems gentle, given the terms of his monstrous contact) contract with Boston, the Cubs landed a solid arm in Lackey. And, to boot, it is a short-term deal, giving the team and John options in the coming third year following the contract. Per Buster Olney of ESPN, the contract is valued at around $32 over those two years; not only are the Cubs signing a strong, seasoned presence for the staff, but are doing so at a favorable price.
