Porcelain tile flooring is composed of tiny particles of clay, feldspar and silica. It is made from clay finer than ceramic tiles. It is a kind of ceramic, but it is at higher temperatures, which allow to glass-like properties to be heated. First porcelain tile is bisque-fired at a low temperature in order to prevent shrinkage during final baking process. A glaze is applied. Porcelain is then heated in an oven at about 2650 degrees Fahrenheit. This higher temperature makes porcelain tile to a denser exterior that is more durable than developing ceramic tiles. Porcelain is less likely to absorb moisture, is durable and stain resistant.
