Thirty seconds don’t hold much weight in the span of a three-hour baseball game.
At any given moment, 40,000 fans can be doing 40,000 different things, whether they’re focused on different players, checking Twitter, buying a nacho helmet or using a fancy new trough.
But for 30 seconds in the middle of the seventh inning at Wrigley Field, (most of) the distractions are put on hold as someone famous (of varying degrees) sings “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” People might have their phones out, if only to film the moment happening in the broadcast booth above home plate.
