CHICAGO -- Left-hander Jon Lester did it all for the Cubs on Monday night, hitting a two-run single, deftly fielding his position and helping start a rundown with a perfect throw to first.
In the bottom of the third, the Mets intentionally walked Kyle Schwarber to load the bases for Lester. He answered with a two-run single to give the Cubs a 4-3 lead in the series opener at Wrigley Field.
The Mets were aggressive against Lester. Amed Rosario singled off the first pitch of the game and Michael Conforto hit a leadoff homer, which traveled a projected 472 feet, according to Statcast™, to straightaway center in the second.
