According to CBS 46 out of Atlanta, the legendary Hank Aaron passed away Friday morning at the age of 86. Aaron is best known to baseball fans as the man who surpassed Babe Ruth’s 714 home runs on April 8, 1974. The record was eventually set at 755 before Barry Bonds eventually bested it, but Aaron still holds MLB’s all-time marks of 2,297 RBI and 6,856 total bases.

He did it all while battling virulent racism in the deep south, even facing death threats as he was approaching Ruth’s mark. Henry Louis Aaron was so much bigger than any of the numbers he put up on the diamond and his legacy is far too great for me to adequately address here.
