ST. LOUIS — We don’t talk politics much here at The Athletic, and in an election year, it’s impossible to get any unanimity. But I’m quite sure Cubs fans have found one group of lefties they can all rally behind. With the Cubs topping the Cardinals 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon to reduce their magic number to just one, both Anthony Rizzo and Jon Lester took center stage.
Lester tossed eight shutout innings, striking out eight, walking just one and allowing three hits. Rizzo slugged a pair of home runs, 30 and 31 on the year, while driving in three to push his RBI total to 101 on the season.
