Kyle Hendricks hit hard for first time in spring but offense bails him out

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Angels played to an 8-8 tie Monday. Here are some takeaways from the game:

Kyle Hendricks: Hendricks threw well -- until he didn’t -- as about four innings of his outing went as planned. He gave up five runs in the fourth inning as Mike Trout and Albert Pujols went back-to-back on him. He gave up nine hits overall in 5 u2154 innings.

“One (pitch) to (Mike) Trout was a good pitch, (one) to (Albert) Pujols got too much of the plate,” Hendricks said afterwards.
