Cubs and other MLB players are reporting to their home ballparks to begin “Summer Camp” workouts Friday.
Jose Quintana arrived at camp with a non-baseball injury. Per a press release from the team, Quintana suffered a laceration on his left thumb while washing dishes at his home in Miami. The injury required five stitches.
Thursday morning in Chicago, Quintana underwent microscopic surgery on his left thumb to further determine the extent of his injury. The procedure identified a lacerated digital sensory nerve in his left thumb, which was surgically repaired.
The Cubs say Q will be out for “approximately two weeks,” after which he will begin a throwing program and at that point there will be a further determination of how long he’ll be out.
