MESA, Ariz. – When Jake Arrieta celebrated his 31st birthday on Sunday, he said he still felt like he was in his early 20s. The 38-year-old John Lackey made his spring debut Tuesday -- does he still feel like a youngster?
“I don’t even remember my early 20s,” Lackey said with a laugh.
The veteran starter worked a pair of innings, facing seven batters and allowing one hit while striking out one. Lackey said he just came out firing fastballs – he claimed he threw just one breaking ball – and said it felt good as far as the first step of the spring goes.
