If you hadn’t heard, Cubs manager Joe Maddon is starting to warm to an automated strike zone.
That’s right, the anti-regulation Maddon may just be in favor of (dramatic music) robot umpires.
A few games of bad umpiring will do that to even the most humanist manager.
After home plate umpire Ryan Blakney called what Maddon referred to as a “ball zone” Friday at Wrigley field, Maddon was asked about automating the replay system, which he did praise in its current version.
“Honestly, I’ve been vacillating on that,” Maddon said. “But obviously balls and strikes is a different animal.
