The Chicago Cubs released right-hander Jake Arrieta on Thursday, ending his second stint with the franchise.
Arrieta pitched on Wednesday night, allowing 11 hits and eight runs (seven in the first inning alone) in four innings of the Cubs' 10-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers to fall to 5-11 with a 6.88 ERA this season. Arrieta dropped his seventh straight decision and since his last win on May 25 he has a 9.92 ERA in 11 starts.
He returned to the Cubs this season with a one-year deal after spending the past three seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies.
