Starting pitcher Jake Arrieta continued to prove why he’s the ace of the Chicago Cubs, holding the New York Mets to just one earned run on five hits while recording seven strikeouts in the 6-1 win to complete the three-game sweep. Both infield Jonathan Herrera and catcher Miguel Montero backed up their starting pitcher by launching two-run shots late in the game.
Herrera gave the Cubs (41-35) the 1-0 lead during the top of the second inning with a sacrifice bunt to Jacob deGrom, scoring outfielder Chris Coghlan from third base while advancing Chris Denorfia to second base.
