Jake Arrieta great, but Cubs lose on Cardinals walkoff

ST. LOUIS — The Cubs almost played the kind of all-around game you need to win at Busch Stadium and beat the best team in baseball.

But the St. Louis Cardinals prey upon mistakes, walking off with a 3-2 victory in 10 innings on Friday in front of a sellout crowd.

With the bases loaded and five defenders positioned across the diamond, Jhonny Peralta hit a groundball to the right side of the infield off Justin Grimm, the fifth reliever the Cubs used that night. Mike Baxter had to hurry and made a wild throw to home plate, allowing the winning run to score.
