Let’s get the boring stuff out of the way. The Cubs lost their third straight in Queens, falling 4-3 to the New York Mets on Saturday night. Anthony Rizzo hit a two-run homer and Ben Zobrist hit a solo shot. Carl Edwards Jr. and Travis Wood each pitched 1 1/3 shutout innings in relief and Wood stranded two more inherited runners, making him a perfect 20 for 20 in that department on the season.
Manager Joe Maddon and numerous Cubs players weren’t too thrilled with home plate umpire Laz Diaz’s strike zone. The players were often looking back at Diaz in confusion after called strikes, and even the Fox broadcast mentioned the questionable calls.
