Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs calmed the Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals), 6-3 in the season opener in front of 7,226 fans at Principal Park in Des Moines.

Connor Noland started for the I-Cubs and was strong, allowing just one run on two hits over four innings. Noland struck out six and walked two.

Meanwhile, Iowa took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when shortstop Ben Cowles homered in his first career at-bat for Iowa. Cowles was 2 for 4.

Brooks Kriske took over for Noland in the fifth inning and got the win because Noland didn’t go five innings.
