How the Wrigley crowd and past history helped lift the Cubs to Wednesday's thrilling walk-off victory

A few years ago, Cubs fans at Wrigley Field would've been more consumed with dread than hope.

Such was the nature of a franchise nicknamed the "Lovable Losers" who hadn't won a championship in over a century and had gotten used to "Cubbie Occurrences" like the black cat or Steve Bartman or any other number of instances.

Nowdays the whole mindset has changed, from the players in uniform to the fans in the stands.

Wednesday night was the epitome of that, where the 40,275 fans in attendance treated an early-June game against the Phillies like a late-October contest.
