Chicago Cubs starter Jon Lester pitched a gem in Game 1 against the San Francisco Giants.
It was the third scoreless, walk-free start of at least eight innings in Cubs postseason history. The other two were by Jake Arrieta in the Wild Card round against the Pirates last season and Hall-of-Famer Mordecai “Three Finger” Brown against the Tigers in the 1908 World Series, the last time the Cubs were champions.
One run was all Lester needed. It’s the first time the Cubs won a 1-0 game all season. For Lester, it was the first time he threw eight scoreless innings in a postseason start (15th start).
