Here’s how the Cubs’ current 40-man roster was put together

We’re still about four weeks out from spring training, but I thought this would be a good time to take a look at the Cubs’ current 40-man roster (which now stands at 38) and how they were acquired.

It is notable that of these 38 players, 28 of them were on the 40-man roster when I made a post on this topic about a year ago. It did seem at the time that the Cubs’ active roster would look much the same in 2019 as it did in 2018, and that does appear to be the case, with the only significant changes being the acquisitions by trade of Cole Hamels and Brandon Kintzler, and the signing of Daniel Descalso.
