For eight weeks, the Cubs played like a team that belonged in the postseason. As recently as the first week of September, they seemed almost like shoo-ins. The predictive models loved their chances. Those of us who are blissfully dimwitted enough not to even begin to understand what goes into those predictive models loved their chances, too.

But then, well, you already know what happened.
