Baseball, they say, is a marathon, not a sprint. That’s why it’s usually a bad idea to overreact to one great win, or one horrid loss.
This time, though, I’m going to make an exception to that general rule.
Because on a night when the Cubs got yet another solid outing from their starting pitcher and finally, finally, FINALLY got some key hits and balls that left the yard at the most opportune time, the bullpen simply could not hold the lead. It was almost as if the relievers had said to themselves, “What’s the most gut-punching way we can lose this game?
