The Iowa Cubs take the field tonight against the Omaha Storm Chasers at 7:08 Central Time at Principal Park in Des Moines. It’s the 45th season that Iowa will be the Cubs’ top farm team.
The first thing to know about this Cubs team is that it is absolutely loaded with prospects. Nine of the top 30 Cubs prospects according to MLB Pipeline will start the season with Iowa while a tenth, right-hander Brandon Birdsell, is expected to join the team when he returns from the injured list. Five of those prospects—RHP Cade Horton, OF Owen Caissie, OF Kevin Alcántara, C Moises Ballesteros and 2B James Triantos—are on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 prospects list.
