The Cubs claimed RHP R.J. Alvarez off waivers from the Oakland A’s
While Joe Maddon’s team was on the field in Atlanta taking on the Braves, the front office announced it claimed RHP R.J. Alvarez off waivers from the Oakland A’s.
R.J. Alvarez was optioned to Double-A Tennessee.
With the addition of R.J. Alvarez, the Cubs’ 40-man roster officially stands at 39 players.
R.J. Alvarez, 25, had been on the 60-day disabled list all season while recovering from surgery to remove bone chips in his elbow in Spring Training (late March/early April).
