Fowler ejected after arguing called third strike

CHICAGO -- Cubs center fielder Dexter Fowler was ejected from Thursday's series opener against the Nationals in the third inning for arguing a called third strike with home-plate umpire Vic Carapazza.

Fowler tossed his bat toward the dugout after getting called out on strikes to end the third against Nationals starter Joe Ross. Fowler continued to talk to Carapazza, who then ejected him.

Jason Heyward, who had not started four straight games because of a sore right wrist, took over in center field for Fowler, who was called out on strikes in the first as well.
