When Cubs manager Joe Maddon gave his way-too-early lineup at a charity event a few days prior to the Cubs Convention, conspicuously absent from the group was Javier Baez.
Baez made just 95 starts in the regular season, but come October, there he was, manning second base to start all 17 games of the postseason.
With that in mind, it’s fair to wonder just how Baez fits into the 2017 team and whether he’ll continue to roam all over the field defensively or if he’ll settle in at one position. When I first asked Baez what he expected his role to be this upcoming season, he suggested it would be a lot like 2016
“I’m pretty sure I’m going to be moving around again, as will everybody,” Baez said.
