Finfer: Cubs still must-see television even if team never tops ‘Season One’

Television shows often struggle after initial success. To survive on TV, writers and producers empty the plot tank, using every idea at their disposal to pick up an audience and stay on the air. And then they run out of ideas.

‘Entourage’ became annoying. ‘Homeland’ lost its way in the post-Brody era. And ‘True Detective’ cast Vince Vaughn.

In 2016, the best show on television was Cubs baseball. It had drama, comedy, plot twists and a perfect finale. There was Kyle Schwarber’s injury and comeback, David Ross’ retirement and Matt Szczur’s underwear. This was brilliant writing.

So what’s left for the follow-up in 2017?
