Farrell struggles in spot start; Rizzo pitches

CHICAGO -- Luke Farrell has been asked to do just about everything for the Cubs, and manager Joe Maddon made a point before Monday's game of pointing out that the right-hander never complains.

"Great competitor, good stuff, great makeup," Maddon said of Farrell, who has shuttled between Triple-A Iowa and the big league team this season. "I put him in some really difficult moments this year."

Farrell had another of those moments on Monday. After playing five games in four days against the Cardinals, the Cubs needed Farrell to make a spot start against the D-backs.
