Eric Hosmer, who helped the Kansas City Royals win the 2015 World Series, announced his retirement Wednesday.
The former All-Star first baseman was waived by the Chicago Cubs in May 2023 after hitting .234 with two homers and 14 RBIs in 94 at-bats. He joined the team prior to the season on a free agent deal for the minimum.
Hosmer, 34, signed an eight-year, $144 million deal with the San Diego Padres in 2017, was traded to the Boston Red Sox in 2022 and was released at the end of that season.
