For only the third time this season, Cubs manager Joe Maddon wrote Jason Heyward’s name into the seventh spot in the lineup Sunday.
Given how poorly Heyward has hit this season, I was surprised he hadn’t hit ninth yet.
It seemed excessive to ask him about hitting that low in the lineup when his slash line was .227/.308/.314 going into the game. Our Joe Sheehan wrote about Heyward’s offensive struggles last week.
Heyward is in a tricky situation when it comes to his communication with the public through the press. It wouldn’t be very professional to hide, and Heyward is a pro.
