PHOENIX – On Friday, the Cubs opened a series against the Diamondbacks, who are chasing them in the National League Wild Card standings. That three-game set gives them an opportunity to shake up the Wild Card race before a final two-week push that ends in Milwaukee against the NL Central Division leaders.
“Didn’t come out of [Colorado] with the series we wanted,” manager David Ross said after dropping two of three games against the Rockies this week, “but a lot of games left, and we’ve got to still push hard for it.
