WASHINGTON -- Chris Denorfia's first rehab assignment with Double-A Tennessee was a positive sign toward his recovery and return to the Major League club.
The outfielder played left field and batted in the leadoff spot on Thursday, going 2-for-3 with a double, walk and RBI.
Denorfia was removed in the third inning of a game against the Cardinals on May 5 and placed on the 15-day disabled list after straining his left hamstring.
In his first season with the Cubs, Denorfia was batting .429 with the big league club in 21 at-bats over 12 games before the injury.
