MESA, Ariz. -- Let the competition begin -- especially in the Chicago Cubs' bullpen.
Day 1 of drills on Saturday for pitchers and catchers consisted mostly of covering first base and laid back pick off attempts before the catchers participated in batting practice, as Kyle Schwarber and his teammates took their hacks.
“Don’t put me in a group with Schwarber,” teammate David Ross yelled jokingly. “Put me with the pitchers. I want to get my confidence up.”
Schwarber didn’t break any windshields this time -- that we know of, at least -- though he was smashing baseballs all over the place as he usually does.
