Saturday was Alec Mills’ first start since his no-hitter Sunday in Milwaukee. His bid to repeat history lasted until Eddie Rosario’s two-out first-inning home run in the Cubs’ 8-1 loss to the Twins.
Beyond the no-hitter, Mills had been riding a 17-inning scoreless streak, which was the longest active run in the National League. Mills allowed Miguel Sano’s seventh-inning homer, and he ended up going six-plus innings and giving up four runs (three earned) and six hits while striking out seven as the Cubs’ five-game winning streak was snapped.
After David Bote’s run-scoring double tied the game in the second, Rosario restored Minnesota’s lead with an RBI single in the sixth.
