The Cubs announced the third round of Spring Training roster cuts prior to Saturday’s game in Scottsdale against the Rockies. The Cubs have assigned six players to minor league camp and granted right-handed pitcher Junichi Tazawa his release, reducing their spring roster from 40 to 33 players.
The Cubs made the right, but surprising move, and decided to send OF/INF Ian Happ to Iowa to begin the 2019 season. Right-handed pitchers Dillon Maples and Alec Mills and catcher Taylor Davis have been optioned to Triple-A Iowa.
Two non-roster invitees have been assigned to minor league camp: infielder Cristhian Adames and outfielder Johnny Field.
