SAN DIEGO – May Gray leads to June Gloom. It’s a saying San Diegans share, for those unfamiliar with the overcast nature of the early summer in their fine city, but it’s fitting for the Cubs’ play of late as well. After a 6-2 loss to the Padres, the Cubs are losers of five straight and now stunningly sit at 25-26 on the season.
Struggles happen to every club — even last season’s 103-win, World Series-winning Cubs hit the skids for a bit. But to suggest anyone expected the North Siders to play like this for the first two months of the season would be a stretch.
