MESA, Ariz. – The Cubs and right-hander Brandon Workman are have agreed to a one-year deal, per source. The deal is worth $1 million.
Workman was one of MLB’s best relievers in 2019, going 10-1 with a 1.88 ERA in 73 games with the Red Sox. The 32-year-old right-hander struggled in 2020 with a 5.95 ERA in 21 games with the Red Sox and Phillies.
The Cubs and Pedro Strop have also agreed to a minor-league deal with an invite to spring training, per sources. Strop could make $800,000 if he makes the team.
Strop was a staple in the Cubs bullpen during their run of success and from his arrival in Chicago in 2013 to his departure after the 2019 season, the right-hander was one of the most consistent relievers in baseball.
