Max Bain sounds like a character in a comic book or video game, and his 6-foot-6, 250 pound frame does nothing to dispel that notion. Superpowers aside, he’s actually a 22-year-old righty out of Northwood University in Michigan. Undrafted out of college, Bain caught on with the Utica Unicorns of the short-season United Shore Professional Baseball League (USPBL) in 2019.
He put up a 4.88 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 24 innings, holding opposing hitters to a .200 average with just three extra base hits. His 23 walks are a little troubling, but you’ll take that from a guy who throws in the upper 90’s.
