The Chicago Cubs today selected infielder Jared Young from Triple-A Iowa and optioned infielder Miles Mastrobuoni to Iowa. To make room on the 40-man roster for Young, left-handed pitcher Brandon Hughes has been transferred to the 60-day injured list.
Young, 27, is hitting .326 (56-for-172) with seven doubles, one triple, 13 home runs, 45 RBI, 29 walks, a .426 on-base percentage and a 1.031 OPS in 52 games for Iowa this season. The left-handed hitter has posted a .349 average (46-for-132) with 12 home runs and a 1.150 OPS against right-handed pitching this season and owns a .
