Four the fourth time in a week, the Cubs added a new name to their bullpen. Prior to Monday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds, the Cubs purchased the contract of veteran Joel Peralta and sent down 24-year-old lefty Gerardo Concepcion.
Concepcion looked solid in his first appearance, coming into a one-run game against the St. Louis Cardinals on June 21, stranding a runner and retiring all four batters. He continued to work in close-game situations in his next two appearances, facing six batters total, but only retiring half of them and allowing all four of the runners he inherited to score.
