As first reported earlier today, the Cubs have indeed selected the contract of veteran outfielder Carlos González a few days after inking him to a minor-league deal. The 33-year-old will wear jersey number 2 as he starts in right and bats fifth for the Cubs Monday afternoon.
Here’s more from the Cubs’ press release:
González, 33, is a three-time National League All-Star (2012-13, 2016), three-time Gold Glove Award Winner (2010, 2012-13), two-time Silver Slugger (2010, 2015) and 2010 N.L. batting champion during his 12-year major league career with the Oakland Athletics (2008), Colorado Rockies (2009-18) and Cleveland Indians (2019).
