Willson Contreras injured a hamstring Saturday while running out a ball that was eventually caught in left-center field.
Unfortunately, that means he’ll be hitting the injured list. It’s unclear how long that IL stint will be:
For the moment, that puts Victor Caratini in a starting role. Caratini is hitting .271/.360/.458 (32-for-112) this season with seven doubles, five home runs and 21 RBI. Those are reasonable numbers for a backup catcher, but now Caratini will have to shoulder most of the load until, likely, after September 1.
Taylor Davis played in six games for the Cubs earlier this year and went 3-for-15.
