Cubs roster move: Justin Steele goes on 15-day IL

Related Topics: Chicago Cubs, Justin Steele

The Cubs placed left-handed pitcher Justin Steele on the 15-day injured list today with left elbow tendonitis. Right-handed reliever Jack Neely has been recalled from Triple-A Iowa.

The Cubs had Steele’s turn in the rotation skipped yesterday with his elbow issue, but then later announced that the MRI on his sore left elbow came back clean, giving hope that he would only miss the one start. But today they revealed that Steele’s elbow was still giving him trouble and rather than risk anything, they decided to place him on the injured list.

The Cubs are hopeful that Steele will only miss the minimum 15-days, but with this little time left in the season, it’s clearly possible that the Cubs will shut down Steele for the rest of the year.
