Jorge López didn’t pitch much on the recent road trip due to a groin injury. He came back and threw a scoreless inning Saturday, then got lit up by the Pirates with a pair of home runs Monday.
Today, the Cubs placed López on the 15-day injured list due to that right groin strain (retroactive to Tuesday) and recalled righthander Trey Wingenter from Triple-A Iowa.
López has a 2.19 ERA and 1.176 WHIP in 22 games since the Cubs signed him June 11 following his release by the Mets. He has 28 strikeouts and eight walks allowed in 24u2154 innings.
